Emerging Challenges for Emergency Responders: Understanding the Hazards of Lithium-Ion Batteries (BAT101)

Join us for an engaging 3-hour course designed specifically for emergency management personnel, where you'll gain essential insights into lithium-ion batteries and the associated hazards. This course is expertly developed and led by Assistant State Fire Marshal Chief Nathan Ellis, whose lifelong commitment to fire codes and investigations brings invaluable real-world experience to the classroom. Students will have the unique opportunity to learn from his firsthand encounters with the challenges faced by our state.

Key topics covered include: the underlying science of lithium-ion batteries, an exploration of thermal runaway and its potential risks to emergency responders, energy storage systems in homes, vehicles, and buildings, updates on fire codes and standards, best practices in the field, the dynamics of electric vehicles and the EV task force, and the future landscape of lithium-ion technologies.
