The National Hurricane Program is transitioning to a web-based version of HURREVAC, the longtime hurricane decision support tool for government emergency managers. This comprehensive training will introduce emergency managers to the new HURREVAC platform, called HVX. It will include an overview of the HVX interface, with interactive exercises and demonstrations to understand how to use current and new capabilities. Background information will be given on National Weather Service forecast products, utilized by the program. The Hurricane Evacuation Study (HES) process will also be covered, with specific focus on HES information available for the local area.
A high speed internet connection is required. Students should apply for HVX accounts at http://www.hurrevac.com in advance of the class and bring their own laptop computers or tablets to class for hands-on exercises within the application. Google Chrome and Firefox are the preferred Internet browsers for accessing HVX.
